Motorola Razr vs Samsung Galaxy Z Flip – Which phone will you bend towards?

Samsung Galaxy Zflip Vs Motorola Moto Razr

Flip phones brought an era of compact phones with clamshell design. As phones evolved to become smarter with larger displays, flip phones went into a rapid obsolescence. Brands are now adopting newest of technology to morph those flip phones into more advanced foldable phones with bendable screens.

Samsung and Motorola launched their foldable phones almost this year almost at the same time. Samsung launched its second foldable, Galaxy Z Flip and Motorola launched Razr, designed akin to its old, successful flip phone. Let’s see how these two phones compare.

  • Display – Galaxy Z Flip unfolds into a 6.7 inch dynamic AMOLED display and Motorola Razr has a 6.2 inch POLED display with a chin for fingerprint sensor at the bottom when opened. Z Flip is a little shorter, thicker and wider than Moto Razr when folded and also has higher resolution than Razr. But, the secondary display of Razr is better as it is much larger and can hold more information than just notifications as in Z Flip.
  • Hinge – Hinge is the one part which sets a foldable phone apart from a regular one. It basically determines how successful your foldable is. Z Flip comes with a nearly gapless free stop hinge called the flex mode. So, the phone can stay open at different angles like a laptop. Razr’s hinge is not entirely gapless and hinge weight is not stiff. So, once brought halfway, it either opens or closes.
  • Design – Samsung Z Flip design has a more modern and stylish feel whereas Motorola Razr is designed to play on the heritage of old Razr. The fact that Z Flip does not open and close as freely as Razr because of the flex mode, the user experience gets somewhat compromised.
  • Crease – Till now we don’t have foldable phone without crease. So, both the phones have creases, but the Z Flip’s crease is more visible as it is a single dent as opposed to Motorola’s large soft double crease.
  • Camera – Samsung has a 12 MP dual rear camera set and 10 MP selfie camera whereas Motorola has a 16 MP rear camera and 5 MP front. Z Flip’s camera is obviously not flagship standard, but it still performs better than that of Razr.
  • Battery – Moto Razr has a 2510 mAh battery and Galaxy Z Flip comes with a 3300 mAh battery. No doubt that Samsung’s battery is better but then it has to support a larger display.
  • Other Specs – Razr comes with a Snapdragon 710 processor, 6 GB RAM and 128 GB storage. On the other hand, Z Flip comes with superior specs like Snapdragon 855+ processor, 8 GB RAM and 256 GB storage.
  • Price – Motorola Razr is priced at Rs.1,24,999 and Samsung has priced Z Flip a little lower at Rs. 109,999.

Galaxy Z Flip is not going to be the first foldable phone by the brand Samsung. They have had one last year and the company’s journey in foldable tech has been a little bumpy. Learning from the past mistakes, they have launched this phone with full confidence. Although it won’t be a flagship device for the company, it surely is its statement smartphone.

For Motorola, Razr means a lot more because they are returning to flagship with this device. To re-establish itself in the market and disrupt Samsung’s status quo, Motorola decided on creating a phone based on their successful 2004 flip phone, Moto Razr.
